We needed to go over to Port Orchard to pick up mail and check on the house after Labor Day. All was well. The orchard had a few tasty apples. We took a couple over to Rose and Lucy who ate them right up. It was a short trip over the hill and back.
The weather turned rough Thursday evening with thunder and lightening all around the mountains for more than an hour. The rain came in buckets flooding the park. We thought we should have put the awning down because of the wind but it was too wet and wild to be outside. The damage was wide spread with the pea gravel tent pads having been washed onto the roads, tree branches down, great gullies down the hillsides and on the beach. A few trees were up rooted, one narrowly missing the Ranger's house. There were two camper sites with tents who were quite wet in the morning. The camp staff were out with the big tractor plowing the streets and parking lots where the water had deposited sand, fir needles and debris.
Our good Finn friends, the Sillanpaas, came to camp for the weekend. We enjoyed campfires, walking the trails, the Chelan County Fair, shopping in Leavenworth and fresh fruit from Prey's.

I love this suitcase! It came from Finland nearly 50 years ago carrying all the possessions our friends had. Now, it carries birch campfire wood.

A few minutes after shoveling up the fire pit charcocoal, we noticed the bucket was smoking. Someone didn't put their coals completely out. |

Today, we rode up the Eagle Creek Road where the most recent forest fire was. This home was saved even though the fire came right to the house. The heavy rainstorm quickly washed away the top soil. |
